Tribute to Dr Charlie Geddes

Dr Charlie Geddes

Hardie Polymers was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dr Charlie Geddes. Dr Geddes had been a great friend of the company for many years. He was the author of an excellent range of technical blogs for us over the past three years. We were privileged to have benefitted from his vast experience and expertise in the field of plastics and we were delighted to have been able to share his knowledge with so many people around the world.

His 57 articles for us ranged from his first on What are Engineering Thermoplastics? to his most recent on Coping with weld lines.

Other topics included subjects like material loss, friction, creep, jetting and tensile strength. The most popularly read of his blogs were:

Is PTFE a thermoset or a thermoplastic? with nearly 4000 views and then two articles with nearly 1000 views each : Do Izod and Charpy make the appropriate impact? and Low cost Identification of plastics.

Over the past few years this series of articles has had a combined readership of over 26,000 views.

‘Charlie’s death is a great loss to the industry in Scotland and beyond. His knowledge of plastics was exceptional and his commitment to our industry and the SPRA, the Scottish Plastics and Rubber Association, was always unstinting. We had so much positive feedback over recent years on Charlie’s technical blogs. They generated some terrific debates amongst industry professionals.’ says Fergus Hardie, MD of Hardie Polymers.
