    What we do

As a deliberately unauthorised distributor, Hardies are not handcuffed by only being able to supply specific brands.

We have the flexibility to be able to source virtually any polymer in the world, saving you time and money in the process.

Everything we source is supplied in the original manufacturer’s packaging with the manufacturer’s Certificate of Analysis. Minimum order quantities can be delivered from as little as 25kg upwards.

If you can’t find the exact polymer or brand you require – call us and we will search for you, with no obligation to purchase.

Bartosz, Commercial Director, loves a challenge.

    Sustainable products

Sustainability is vital to not only meet customer and consumer demand, it is crucial that ethically, we all play our part in future-proofing our industry and always doing our very best for the planet.

Increasingly we are asked to source products that meet greener specifications and our team are happy to provide options and guidance in this area. Sustainable polymers generally fall into two category types: Recycled Plastics and Bio/Eco Polymers.

With so much misinformation on plastics, many companies are left confused and uncertain of the approach they should take so we are delighted to introduce Chris DeArmitt, PhD FRSC FIMMM, President of Phantom Plastics in the United States. Truly independent, his goal is to be the leading source of unbiased information on plastics.

Chris is considered one of the top plastic materials experts and problem solvers in the World, which is why companies like HP, Apple, Exxon, P&G, Eaton, Total and Disney go to him for help and to create breakthrough plastic materials.

    Key contacts

    Isy Ferguson

    Managing Director

I have been with Hardies for 29 years, starting originally as the bookkeeper and then working my way through the other departments such as haulage, purchasing and sales.

The knowledge gleaned from working in all these different areas, combined with skills I have developed, means I have an in-depth understanding of the business from the ground up.

The plastics industry has changed dramatically since I joined the company and the history and contacts built up over time is invaluable. Sales is the part of my job I enjoy most and I thrive on finding solutions to diverse problems.

In November 2021, with the backing of the team at Nevis Capital, Bartosz and I were delighted to conclude a management buyout of Hardie Polymers.

    Bartosz Komanski

    Commercial Director

I have been immersed in the world of polymers since joining Hardies in 2007. My main role within the business is to keep the customers happy by providing the materials they are looking for and, wherever possible, reducing the lead times.

With a supplier list of over 350 companies this is readily achieved, but it takes a great deal of effort to maintain an effective knowledge-based working relationship with so many partners.

in November 2021, with the backing of the team at Nevis Capital, Isy and I were delighted to conclude a management buyout of Hardie Polymers.

    Fergus Hardie FIMMM

    Chairman

After 22 years at the helm I am pleased now to take up my new role of Chairman, supporting the team with the marketing of our material range to our customers across the UK.

I have enjoyed working within the plastics industry since 1987 and been lucky enough to make many good friends within it.

I am a passionate supporter of UK Manufacturing and was very proud in 2016 to be awarded a Fellowship of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining : IOM3

    Monika Holowiecka

    Account Manager

I joined the Material Sales Team in January 2018 and my role entails finding the required materials for our clients and making sure they are delivered within their desired time frame.

Maintaining good relationships with our customers is of paramount importance to me. My previous position saw me working as an account manager for a green energy company. It was a role that required strong relationship building skills and a keen commercial eye. Both of these skills have been readily transferable into the polymer industry.

    Linda Tonner

    Sales Administrator

I have been at Hardies since 2004 and my main role is to process orders sent from the Sales Team. This involves a variety of administrative duties as well as liaising with suppliers and customers.

Before joining Hardies, I spent 28 years at The Royal Institute of British Architects, in the commercial section of the Institute. I provided technical libraries to architects, surveyors, local authorities and hospitals amongst others.

    Jack Ferguson

    Account Manager

I joined the Hardies team in 2017 initially undertaking part time work and building up my experience in different fields.

Since becoming full-time, my main role within the company is in sales and business development. I am constantly searching for new commercial contracts for the company but I also step in and help in logistics or accounts when required.

    Danielle Thomson

    Warehouse & Logistics Manager

I joined the Hardies team in 2017 and have over 15 years administration experience, which resulted in me becoming a legal secretary.

After a break to start a family, I found myself in the world of stores and logistics where I gained 7 years experience working for a large renewable energy company as Order Management Assistant for the UK.

At Hardies, I’m in constant contact with hauliers and suppliers to ensure that our customers have the most up to date information regarding their materials and deliveries.

    Allan Stanway

    Purchasing Assistant

I worked previously for G4S Security in Glasgow. My work mainly involved the control of inbound cash from clients and the subsequent crediting of their accounts on a nightly basis.

As well as being involved in the currency administration of the company, I also gained valuable experience in warehouse management in a demanding environment.

At Hardies after starting in an administrative role, I have now moved into purchasing and am dealing with our network of polymer suppliers across Europe. I am very much enjoying this experience, learning from all the different interactions between suppliers and customers that I am involved in.

    Samantha Ramage

    Operations Administrator

I joined the Hardies team in 2021 after spending a number of years in the Insurance industry.

I worked with Aviva and then NFU Mutual in both the customer service and claims departments for around 8 years which gave me good experience in supporting customers needs. Following that I spent some time living in Australia before returning to the UK.

My job at Hardies involves the handling of all the new import documentation for our materials coming in from the EU, post Brexit. This includes the control of the shipping documents from our hauliers, the correct allocation of all the commodity codes for the different polymers we supply and ensuring the customs paperwork is dealt with promptly.

    David McBride

    Warehouse Controller

I joined Hardies in 2021 following a number of years working in logistics.

I spent 6 years as a supervisor at FedEx in Cumbernauld and EuroCentral, followed by 6 years handling deliveries at Morrisons Food Services in Hillington.

At Hardies I am responsible for the day to day operations at our warehouse, overseeing all the stock movements as we bring materials in from across Europe to support our UK customers. Meeting our customers delivery expectations is vital to us and our team are always working hard to achieve this.

As we manage the current polymer shortages for our customers, it’s certainly a busy warehouse these days !

    Mark Horvath

    Account Manager

Following a degree course at University in Budapest, in International Relations and Economics, I joined Cosmetics company, Golden Rose in 2007 and spent 6 years there as an Import/Export Manager.

On moving to the UK in 2013, I joined Everest Windows and spent 5 years in their direct sales department. In 2018 I changed tact and with a love for the sport, became a Professional Waterpolo coach at the University of Strathclyde. Under my leadership, we won the University League twice between 2018 and 2022.

I joined the team at Hardie Polymers in 2022 and am delighted to have the opportunity here to use my experience in sales and international trade as we continue to grow the business.

    Industry insight

Hardie Polymers have been supplying the Plastic Injection Moulding industry since its inception in1960. As you would expect, we have amassed a wealth of insights and knowledge regarding the use of polymers within a variety of sectors. This knowledge sharing is provided to inform the next generation of material processors and engineers.

    Coping with weld lines

In injection moulding, weld lines (knit lines) form when two melt fronts meet. If the melt fronts do not coalesce completely, at best there will be a cosmetic flaw. At worst there will be a mechanical weak-spot, with strengths of the order of 10 - 90 % of the material potential.

What determines friction between thermoplastic components?

Friction is an important property for thermoplastics in bearings and gears but also has a part to play in assembly of plastic parts (snap-fit and interference-fit) and ejection during moulding.
