Isy Ferguson, General Manager at Hardie Polymers
How long have you been at Hardies?
Isy Ferguson: – I think this should really remain confidential information as it makes me sound old! But if forced I would have to admit it is now coming up for 23 years..
What was your background before Hardies?
I was a bookkeeper for several different independent companies.
What is your role at Hardies?
I am now General Manager, but I started as a part time bookkeeper for the company. When I handed my notice in after a few years to move to a full time job elsewhere, I was offered a full time role here in Polymer Sales. I decided to turn down the other appointment and stay with Hardies. Little did I know I would still be here 20+ years later.
So you obviously like working for Hardies, what has kept you there for so long?
Yes, it is a great company to work for. The business is constantly evolving so there’s always a new challenge on the horizon. We have a great team here headed by Fergus and everyone truly cares about their customers and trying to help them, its lovely to work for a company where customer service is still at the heart of the business.
What’s your favourite Hardies memory?
There are so many I’m not sure which to pick! When I first started with the company Fergus’ father Donald was MD and being an entrepreneur, he always had a few other things on the go. One was an Ostrich Farm – one day in the absence of all his other staff I was dispatched to feed the Ostriches. Entering a shed with 20 massive Ostriches at feeding time is not fun and definitely was not included in my job description!
When not at work what can you be found doing?
Normally at weekends I can be found biting my nails at the side of a Basketball court as my eldest son plays basketball nearly every weekend. I could complain about being the taxi service but secretly I absolutely love watching & supporting them. This year he is playing for Scotland and is sponsored by Hardies therefore you should be seeing him appear in the our news items or social media soon.
If you could learn anything, what would it be? Ever considered Basketball??
Lol! I am useless at Basketball – I can’t even get a touch of the ball! I say I can Ski but would use the term loosely, perhaps to say I can snowplough would be more accurate! Therefore I would like to learn to ski.…better.
Keep an eye out for the rest of the team in the forthcoming articles.
